Changing a Duotone wing leading edge bladder

Replacing a leading edge bladder on a Duotone wing can be a complex process... But James from H20 has made it look easy! Firstly like a boy scout be prepared!

Ensure the wing is bone dry your working space is free from anything sharp! You're out the wind (or better yet inside) you have the following tools -

String - long enough to pull a bladder through the leading edge!

The airport 2 valve tool to unscrew the valve.

Flat head screw driver to release the connecting tubes to the strut bladder!

It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions specific to your wing model. However, here is a general outline of the steps involved:

  1. Deflate the wing: Completely deflate the wing by opening the valve and squeezing out any remaining air. Ensure the wing is fully deflated before proceeding.

  2. Remove the damaged bladder: Locate the access zipper or entry point for the leading edge bladder. Unzip or open the area to gain access to the bladder. Carefully remove the damaged bladder, taking note of its position and orientation within the leading edge.

  3. Prepare the replacement bladder: If you have a new bladder, ensure it matches the size and specifications of the original bladder. Inspect the replacement bladder for any defects or damage before installation.

  4. Insert the replacement bladder: Insert the replacement bladder into the leading edge following the same orientation as the previous bladder. Be careful not to twist or kink the bladder during installation. Make sure the bladder is properly positioned and aligned within the leading edge.

  5. Inflate the wing: Begin inflating the wing using a pump or compressor. Monitor the inflation carefully, ensuring the replacement bladder inflates evenly and smoothly. Avoid overinflating the wing, as this can put excessive strain on the bladder and other components.

  6. Secure the bladder and close the access point: Once the wing is fully inflated and the replacement bladder is properly positioned, secure the bladder within the leading edge. Check for any twists, folds, or misalignments that may hinder the bladder's functionality. Close and seal the access point, ensuring a secure and airtight closure.

  7. Test and inspect: After replacing the leading edge bladder, conduct a thorough inspection of the wing, paying attention to any signs of air leaks, misalignments, or abnormalities. Inflate and deflate the wing a few times to verify its functionality and integrity.

It's important to note that the specific steps and procedures for replacing a leading edge bladder may vary depending on the model and design of your Duotone wing. Consulting the manufacturer's instructions or seeking guidance from a professional or experienced wing repair technician is highly recommended to ensure proper installation and maintenance.

Top tips! To double check its the leading edge bladder - like below - Inflate the wing fully and close off the clips to the strut so you can clearly see if it is the leading edge deflating or the strut! Or sadly both as in this case! Saves changing the wrong bladder!
